Landowners
Many people benefit from wind farm development, through clean air, energy supply, creation of jobs in construction and maintenance and community benefit schemes. Landowners are in a position to also benefit more directly.
Hosting a wind farm on your land is economically attractive because:
- it makes a good opportunity to diversify land use without any cost or risk. Wind turbines only need a small amount of land, typically less than half an acre including access roads. This means the land remains suitable for planting crops, hunting and grazing livestock. Wind turbines do not scare cattle or sheep
- it provides a secure income for 25 years (the expected life time of the wind farm) without any costs or risk on the landowner side
- wind will be the fastest growing energy sector over the next decades. Its market share is expected to increase dramatically and grow faster than Chinese economy(sources: BWEA, DWIA)
